Lawyers Donate Funds to Staff Ny Bar Foundation

Summary


Hiring two new employees is not always a news event. However, when 29 lawyers donate their own money to hire staff for a foundation that distributes more than $300,000 a year to help fund programs that serve people often overlooked by society - the elderly, poor and marginalized, and young people - many take notice.

At its April 2004 meeting, the board of directors for The New York Bar Foundation (TNYBF) voted to hire a full-time director of development and part-time secretary to help increase fundraising activities. The immediate challenge was how the foundation would pay for these new expenses. The board set a goal of $100,000 as the amount needed for this purpose.
