Summary


Enhancing the availability and utilization of alternative dispute resolution is one of the agenda items Bar Association of Erie County President James Shaw noted in talking about his plans for his year leading Western New York's largest bar association. With nearly 3,700 members, Shaw acknowledges that his job would be impossible without the support of BAEC Executive Director Katherine Bifaro.

We hope to dovetail our ADR initiative with one that Administrative Judge Sharon Townsend has already launched, said Shaw. We will also implement a committee to network with the court system to improve civility in litigation. The economy, abundance of lawyers, and online technology, combined with the generational differences between baby boomers and generation Xers, have created an atmosphere in the legal community that isn't as honorable and civil as it once was. I'd like to see us take some steps to rectify that.
