Gov. Spitzer Wants Worker Training Funds Restored

Summary


Gov. Eliot Spitzer recently joined the "Big 6" governors of California, Florida, Texas, Ohio and Illinois in calling on Congress to restore $335 million in funding for the states' workforce training programs.

Congress cut the funding in July through the Workforce Investment Act, first enacted in 1998 to provide greater access to workforce development programs. Specifically, the July cuts would have provided workforce services in response to plant closings, mass layoffs, natural disasters or other ongoing education and training services.
