New Probate Form Tracks Legal Changes
The official form for probating a will (Form P-1) recently was revised to track new statutory language in the Surrogate's Court Procedure Act (SCPA) 2307-a. This provision requires a lawyer who prepares a will and is named as its executor to file a disclosure statement signed by the client. Pursuant to the recent amendment, employees and affiliated attorneys also must file disclosure statements.
Rochester Home Show Reveals Homeowners' Dream Rooms
The second annual Greater Rochester home show was held March 28 to 30 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The show's major focus was on interior design, highlighted by the feature "Rooms to Dream." "Rooms to Dream" showcased life-size rooms designed and decorated by designers from the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) -- Upstate New York chapter.
New York State Housing Sales Down Again in February
Sales of existing single-family homes in February New York State decreased by more than 12 percent compared to last February, according to the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR). February 2008 total sales of 4,528 represents a decrease of 19 percent compared to the 5,588 closings in February 2007. The February sales total fell 12.6 percent from the January 2008 sales total of 5,178.
Rochester-Based Pictometry International Corp. Faces Infringement Suit
GEOSPAN Corp. of Minneapolis last week filed a patent infringement and declaratory judgment lawsuit against Pictometry International Corp., of Rochester. Both companies provide aerial imagery and related software.

Brighton Residents Able to Attend Free Seminar
In advance of National Healthcare Decisions day, seniors and adult children can attend a free talk on the best ways to ensure end- of-life wishes are known and followed at 6:30 p.m., April 14, at The Gables at Brighton, 2001 S. Clinton Ave., according to a release from the Town of Brighton. The keynote speaker is Patricia A. Bomba, vice president and medial director of geriatrics at Excellus Bluecross Blueshield. Bomba is a national expert on end-of-life care.
Local College Gives Rochester Schools a Facelift
More than 100 students, faculty and staff volunteers from St. John Fisher College will give four schools in the Rochester City School District a makeover, according to a release from the college. The project started March 29 and continues April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will renovate East High School, School No. 2, School No. 16 and School No. 39. The work consists of painting classrooms, hallways, a library, garbage cans and more, depending on the individual needs of the school.
Mayor Duffy Seeks Increased Aid for Rochester
Mayor Robert J. Duffy and senior members of his staff were in Albany on Sunday to keep Rochester prominent on the minds of lawmakers as they fashion the state's 2008-2009 Budget, due today, according to a release from the city. The mayor is fighting for increased state aid given the severity of the city's $22.4 million budget gap.
